Tooth Whitening

Look in the mirror. Smile.
Are your teeth as white as you’d like?

More and more people are choosing teeth whitening. It is one of, if not the most popular choice of cosmetic dentistry.

If you want to have a younger, healthier, brighter smile then you only have to ask your dentist.

We have various teeth whitening systems at Passage House Dental Care and will always suggest which one is most suitable for you.

Teeth whitening is a process where the tooth discolouration is ‘whitened’ to a lighter shade. It removes the staining agent through chemical means. It is a safe procedure when carried out under professional supervision and/or direction.

Please do remember that Dentists are only allowed to supply you with teeth whitening products.  This is because products containing more than 0.1% Hydrogen Peroxide (products with less than 0.1% Hydrogen Peroxide will not produce any visible effects) can only be sourced legally through a dental professional with advice and directions. You may find the same or similar treatments available on line which state that they are over 0.1%, however it is strongly advised to avoid these products because:

  • Only a GDC registered Dentist is allowed to supply higher strength
  • Your dentist can advise if your oral condition is suitable for teeth whitening before embarking on this treatment
  • Your dentist can provide a product that has been sourced from a legal supplier and contains exactly what it says on the packet
  • Your dentist can monitor your teeth whitening achievements and advise further
  • Your dentist knows your oral history and can advise when to have teeth whitening carried out if you are already or thinking about another treatment plan such as crowns or veneers. Speaking to your dentist first, could save you money in the future.
  • Your dentist is a phone call or visit away just in case you need help or advice as you bought a treatment from your dentist rather than an ‘off the shelf’ product.

In effect, it is more expensive to have teeth whitened via your dentist, but you are buying a service with advice and support along with a product that will achieve noticeable results, as opposed to an off the shelf product that will produce no visible results or one you cannot guarantee to be safe.

To help you save money in the long run, remember:

Talk to your dentist if you are going to have a new porcelain crown or veneer, or even white fillings and are interested in tooth whitening. Your dentist will then match it to your new shade of teeth colour. It is important to talk to your dentist about tooth whitening at the start of any treatment because existing restorations cannot be ‘whitened’.

Give yourself confidence in your smile.
