What are Dental Implants?
Dental Implants are the most long lasting way of replacing missing teeth. Not only do they fill in gaps from missing teeth, but they can also help support fixed bridges and dentures.
They come in two parts. First the implant. This is placed in the jawbone and acts like the root of a tooth. Secondly the replacement crown part of the tooth, which is fixed onto the implant.
Dental Implant Procedure
Dental Implant treatment has three stages, all of which are carried out at Passage House Dental Care. (If a CT scan is needed, the scan will be performed at another facility)
First Stage
Careful and complete planning of each Dental Implant.
Second Stage
Local anesthetic is used to numb the area before precise space is made within your bone where the implant is to be placed.
The implant is screwed in to place within this space and the gum is stitched so that it heals around the implant.
Under the gum, the bone then grows round the implant to hold it firm. This can take several weeks and needs good oral care.
Third Stage
Dr Hall will assess the status of the first stage to ensure healing and bone growth is taking place as it should.
When the implant has ‘embedded’ the replacement tooth (crown part of the tooth) is then attached to the implant. This tooth is matched to the current shade of your teeth and will look and function as if it is your natural tooth.
